Lionel Messi is expected to win a record-breaking eighth Ballon d'Or this evening, building on his successful pursuit of the Reality Cup a year ago. After won the championship with Manchester City the previous season and tallying 52 goals in 53 games, Erling Haaland is also favoured to capture the trophy at the Theatre du Chatelet.
Along with Haaland and Messi, the 30-man Ballon d'Or candidate list includes Jude Bellingham, stockpile stars Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard, and former Tottenham striker Harry Kane. The winner of the Yashin Prize, which goes to the goalie with the best record, is Aaron Ramsdale.
The winners of the Ballon d'Or and the Ballon d'Or Feminin are also being revealed tonight by the event's organisers, France Football. The frontrunner to win is Aitana Bonmati, a Spanish star from Barcelona. The English nominees are Chelsea's Millie Bright, Rachel Daly, Georgia Stanway, and Mary Earps.
The Ballon d'Or winner will be announced at
the Théâtre du Chatelet in Paris on Monday, October 30, 2023. The ceremony is
scheduled to start at approximately 8:00 p.m. BST and will be streamed live on
the website and YouTube channel of the French newspaper L'Equipe.
